I think it was around May 2017, we had dinner at my friend Alaa Al Deesi’s house. He had a number of guests that we hadn’t met before, one of which was circumnavigating the planet on his sail boat. We thought it was a completely crazy idea, but it certainly seemed like the adventure of his life. Adeeb Sawaya went around the world on a 49ft monohull.
Needless to say, this planted an idea, we went back home and started imagining the prospect of doing this with our kids. We were always looking for an adventure even before meeting Adeeb, we talked about taking 6 months or a year off to travel, but then the cons of doing that outweighed the pros.
I can’t write this without having to mention one of my best friends: Wissam! This guy has been all over the world solo on his motorbike… So the idea of doing “something” has always been a fantasy for us; the wanderlust has always been there.
My wife also had a colleague at work who had left the busy city life in Dubai and went off to sail around the world. She did it with 2 young kids and had the 3rd kid along the way! OMG how crazy is that?
We went back home… Thinking nothing of this, suddenly I found myself googling “Families sailing around the world”. Loads and loads of results came up, and this is how it all started!
